Emily Francis is a Geography major with a minor in Environmental Studies. During the 2013 spring semester, she interned at the City of Keene with the Parks, Recreation and Cemeteries Department. Her job was to complete the city of Keene’s National Recreation and Parks Association PRORAGIS profile. PROGRAIS is a national database of parks information.
The most important thing she feels she learned was how a municipal parks and recreation department works. Emily felt that this internship was an excellent accompaniment to Dr. Mullen’s Recreation Management course, which had been taught in the fall of 2012.
Emily’s future plans hope to include working for the federal government. “The reason I got into geography was for the chance to travel and spend time in the outdoors. However, I am by no means finished with my education and will be obtaining further degrees in the future,” states Emily.
UPDATE: Emily completed her degree in December 2013 and is currently working on a master’s in geography at the University of Northern Iowa.
