4/22/2010 – Walk a Mile

350 KSC students walked a mile on a cold and rainy Spring day to raise awareness for violence against women. The event called, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes was well attended by the Keene community including greek organizations and sports teams. As a way to pay respect, some men chose to walk the entire mile while literally wearing women’s shoes. The even culminated at Railroad Square where prizes were raffled off. KSC-TV’s Casey Stroffoleno attended the event and spoke with an organizer to reflect on the large turnout in spite of the weather.

4/22/2010 – New YMCA in Keene

Across the country, YMCA facilities offer community residents a place to exercise and participate in recreational activities. In the city of Keene, there are plans to construct a new YMCA building to replace the currently rundown building on Main St. KSC-TV’s Stephen Poole interviews YMCA employees who say that while the downside is that the new building will be more out of the way, the benefits certainly outweigh this particular inconvenience.

4/22/2010 – Live Music at Armadillos

As a way to promote local bands, Armadillos Burritoss, a local Keene restaurant hosts weekly live music events available to the community. Many band members attend school at Keene State and some are Keene residents. KSC-TV’s Johnny Cross visited Armadillos and had the chance to talk to a few musicians about their inspirations and backgrounds.

As a way to inform students about his campaign, Jim Bender visited Keene State this past spring. The event was attended by many students as well as community members and offered promotional DVDs and pamphlets to learn more about Bender. KSC-TV’s Kristyn Bellino spoke to Bender about his goals and stances on issues and what is most important to him.

Just as midterm and general elections are important to the wide and local community, the race for County Sheriff is an important topic of discussion for Cheshire County. 4/15/2010 – Washington St. Construction

For a small city like Keene a big construction project is all it takes to disrupt the daily lives of its residents. Earlier this year, construction crews were hard at work trying to replace old underground utilities. While the project has closed down Washington Street almost entirely, most residents and business owners have been able to continue with their routines without too much disruption. KSC-TV’s Matty Orlando speaks to construction workers, business owners and residents about their thoughts on the current construction.

4/15/2010 – Poetry Reading

New England authors visited Keene State this past April and students had the opportunity to hear some of their work. The poetry reading was organized by the English department and the Dean of Arts and Humanities at the Night Owl Cafe. KSC-TV’s Alessandra Curcio attended the reading and had the chance to speak to some of the authors about their work.

4/15/2010 – In My House

Every year KSC hosts many different performances: Some are plays or musicals; some entertain and some educate. This past spring, the Night Owl Cafe hosted a poetry performance titled “In My House.” This particular performance used poetry and music to tell the story of a rough life and hopes to help others heal. KSC-TV Reporter, Kethlyn Westphall attended this performance and gives us more insight about what inspired the storyline and how others can use this to cope.

4/15/2010 – New County Jail

This past Spring, Cheshire county made great progress when they finished the construction of the new county jail. This new jail offers inmates the opportunity to engage in learning and recreational activities that they were unable to participate in before. In addition, the new building has state of the art technology and uses geothermal technology as a way to conserve energy. KSC-TV’s Chris Rossi gives us a brief tour of the facitilies and speaks to the Superintendent of the Cheshire County Department of Corrections about the benefits of the new jail.
