The Class of 1961 will be celebrating its 50th Reunion this summer, and the excitement of reconnecting and coming back to the campus is starting to build. Registration starts at noon on Friday, June 3rd, at the Student Center. Or you can get an early start on Reunion with the traditional hike up Monadnock that morning at 9:30 a.m. (meet at the main entrance to the park). Or join the KSC Golf Classic at 11 at Brentwood.
Make sure you’re on campus by noon on on Saturday, the 4th, as bagpiper Robert Dinwoodie ’61 leads you and the rest of the Class of ’61 in the parade of classes down Apian Way and into the Alumni Association Annual Awards luncheon. There, you and all your classmates will receive your Golden Circle Society Medallions—not to mention the old classmates and good friends you’ll be reconnecting with.
“The friendships people made are the number one thing; it was such a small school that still at our 50th reunion we treasure those friendships,” Dottie Simpson ’61, Reunion committee member, said.
There will be lots of laid-back fun that afternoon, followed by a special reception and dinner in the Alumni Center. Not a ’61er? Bring your lawn chair to the Red & White Night BBQ on the Quad. And everyone is invited to trip the light fantastic at the dance in the Mabel Brown Room later that evening!
“I look forward to everyone coming back. It is going to be fun to see where they have gone since the last time we have been together,” Simpson said.
There have been many changes on campus since 1961, but the memories remain undimmed. Many alumni have said the Winter Carnival, tanning on the Fiske roof, and Professor Barnard are some of their fonder remembrances.
Members of the Class of ’61 went off to pursue many diverse interests after graduation: art, English, science, education, math—you name it. But they all share common memories and the bond of their college years here at Keene.
If you’re a member of the Class of ’61—or any other Keene class—make sure you’re back on campus for the weekend of June 3–5 to remember, laugh, and enjoy all those people that became your family.
