It’s amazing how many of New Hampshire’s—and New England’s—educators have passed through the halls of Keene State. If you happen to be one of that vast number, Norma Walker ’51, Golden Circle Coordinator, and Kay MacLean H’04, Assistant Director of Alumni and Parent Relations, would like to meet you. The duo will be visiting Retired Educator’s meetings in the next few month to recognize and reconnect with our alumni.
They recently attended the Lakes Region Retired Educators meeting at Pheasant Ridge Country Club in Gilford, NH, where they met the KSC/KTC alumni who were there, thanked everyone for their years of service educating the children of our state, and shared photos and information on the progress and programs supporting students at Keene State College today.
Look for them at the upcoming Cheshire County, Metallak, Southeastern, and Sullivan County Retired Educator’s meetings. They’ll be delighted to meet you!
I am a retired educator, Class of 64, the first class to graduate from KSC not KTC. I wanted to devote my teaching career to children in NH but it was not to be. A native of Claremont, I taught 5th grade for two years in Lebanon. Unfortunately, my husband, Rene, also a ’64 graduate of KSC, was not able to find a position in NH due to an overabundance of applicants in his major, secondary social studies. Finally, he decided to look out of state and in a short time obtained a position teaching 8th Grade American history in Saugerties, NY. Naturally, I accompanied him to NY and we both enjoyed our teaching careers for 31 more years until retirement in 1997. I write this comment to make the point that some of us retired educators found it necessary to relocate and dedicate ourselves to educating children in another state, but we still remember and appreciate the preparation we received at KSC.
I am a retired educator, KSC class of ’85. I give props to Dr.Steve Smith (RIP) and Don Flemming for their encouragement during my days at KSC. I have taught high school Spanish,in 2 private schools on the East Coast and AZ, and ELL in AZ. I now volunteer tutoring Spanish at my local high school.
