You might say Nelson Wormstead ’05 is living his dream. For one, he married his KSC sweetheart, Crystal Moriarty ’05. And he’s the principal New England sales rep for Oakley, and he’s a professional announcer and TV commentator for snowboard competitions around the world. Oh, and he co-owns a snowboard wax company with professional snowboarder Pat Moore.

What does he do as an Oakley rep? “A typical day is getting out on the road and servicing my dealers,” Nelson explained. “I have just under 200 accounts in New England, and daily activities include filling sunglass and apparel orders, meeting with buyers and store owners, and creating events, sales contests, and advertising to help market Oakley within my territory.”

And what does he have lined up as an announcer? “I will be announcing the Burton US Open Snowboarding Championships in Vail in March, Eastern Boarder’s Last Call event here in the east in March, and then I will be announcing Rob Dyrdek’s Street League Skateboarding Tour throughout the summer, which is an arena tour with four stops around the country.”

“I have been very fortunate in both of my jobs,” Nelson said.  “In 2010, I was Oakley’s Action Sports Rep of the Year. … As for announcing, I have been able to travel all over the world. I’ve been to Switzerland, Japan, Norway, and all over the US hosting events for thousands of people. There have been countless highlights on all of those trips.”

Is he still connected to Keene? “I cruise through Keene every six weeks or so,” he said. “I have a couple of Oakley dealers in town that I visit, and I always go to Elm City Brewery or Amici’s Pizza for lunch. Keene was an amazing experience for me. I grew up in a very blue-collar town, and when I came to KSC, I was challenged to expand my education and obtain goals set for myself. I was the President of the Ski and Snowboard club for three years and made some great friends that I am still in touch with.
