Assistant Director of Alumni and Parent Relations Kay MacLean talks to a former teacher at the Lakes Region Retired Educators meeting in March.
It’s amazing how many of New Hampshire’s—and New England’s—educators have passed through the halls of Keene State. If you happen to be one of that vast number, Norma Walker ’51, Golden Circle Coordinator, and Kay MacLean H’04, Assistant Director of Alumni and Parent Relations, would like to meet you. The duo will be visiting Retired Educator’s meetings in the next few month to recognize and reconnect with our alumni.
Students express themselves with chalk along Appian Way
This year, the Student Government has invited ALL KSC Alumni to join in the fun and creativity of Chalk Talk on Thursday, April 28, from 4–7. If you were a chalk-wielding artist when you were on campus, you’ll fit right back in. If you’ve never participated, here’s your chance. Artists of all abilities are welcome to grab some chalk and express their creative genius, using the campus walkways as a canvas. Continue reading Chalk up Another Great Day at KSC→
Remember how Appian Way looked after a powdery snowfall? There’s nothing quite like it. Many Alumni have said they loved to see the Quad under a blanket of fresh snow. So come back and make the first footprints for Keene State College’s Winterfest. The fun starts this Friday, February 4, and goes until Sunday, February 6. (That should give you your fill of winter, eh?)
Get out of the house and bundle up for warmth and relive the feeling of being a student as you ride a tube down a slippery slope or compete in a friendly winter contest with fellow classmates, students, and faculty. Bask in KSC spirit and join fellow sports fans at Spaulding Gym or the local ice rink for some hot action, renewed friendships, and entertainment. Catch the music, thrills, and fun as snowboarders try their tricks on the rail jam, or pitch in and create a snow sculpture right here on campus. Unleash your creativity! Don’t miss this opportunity to build magical memories.
We’ll have lots of snow waiting here for you—and lots of fun and old friends. Bring your own dose of KSC spirit! Visit the Winterfest 2011 web page for more information and to register for the events.
Each year, members of the Alumni Association choose the recipients of the Alunni awards, including the Alumni Achievement Award, the Sprague Drennan Award, the Outstanding Service Award, and the Alumni Inspiration Award. At Reunion each June, the Association gathers to celebrate the outstanding contributions award recipients have made in their career field and in service to the Alumni program and the College.
If you know of an alum who deserves one of these awards, please let us know; we’re currently accepting nominations for this year’s recipients. Visit the Alumni Awards page for a list of past honorees, to review the criteria, and to download the nomination form. The deadline is February 1st.

It is possible—with your help! The Alumni Association is looking for five or six alumni to join a committee with students to guide our plans for our first Alumni/Student Winter Carnival Homecoming scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 4 & 5, 2011. We are dreaming big and need your help in the planning and activities. Ice skating, a bonfire, broom hockey, men’s and women’s basketball, the Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner, snow sculptures along Appian Way, KSC tubing night at Granite Gorge—imagine the possibilities. It can all come true, if you pitch in a little of your time and a lot of your enthusiasm! To volunteer, please email Patty Farmer.
REDiscover Homecoming 2010 was a BIG success! The noble 600 who attended the world premiere of Enter to Learn, Go Forth to Serve: the First Hundred Years of Keene State College loved it; later that night, the comedian in the Night Owl Café had the audience bursting with laughs; O-staffers, Phi Mu Delta, & the CDC held wonderful affinity gatherings; and alumni from several sports teamed up again for a little friendly competition. The weekend wound up with a big bang on Saturday, starting with a tailgate party at the athletic complex, an exciting men’s soccer game that the Owls won in overtime, and awesome fireworks!
The biggest “thank you” to everyone who helped make the weekend what it was. We sure hope we’ll see you back soon. Mark your calendar for KSC’s Winter Carnival on February 4 & 5! To stay up-to-date with KSC Alumni events and happenings, find us on Facebook at “Keene State College Alumni” or follow us on twitter via “kscalumni.” And, of course, you can always depend on Newsline.
As we relaunch Homecoming at KSC, we are seeking volunteers on Friday, October 1st, and Saturday, October 2nd, to help welcome alumni back to Keene and help students get acquainted with Alumni.
Volunteer opportunities include:
Promoting the events to other alumni & students
Hosting and ushering during the film premier at the Colonial Theatre
Driving the golf cart shuttle
Guiding tours
Hosting affinity gatherings
Helping out with the tailgating activities and games
Handing out refreshments at the Owl Stadium event
Volunteering with the Alumni Association can be a lot of fun! You meet interesting people and help share KSC pride!
For more information, or to offer your assistance, please contact Patty Farmer via email or 603-358-2370.

Changed jobs lately? Gotten a promotion? Taken a cool vacation? Acquired a new family member? Presented at a conference? Done some community service? Be sure you keep us in the know! Alumni tell us all the time that they really want to hear what their former classmates (that would be you) are up to. We publish that news in the “Class Notes” section of Keene State Today (your alumni magazine) and lots of people (us included) love reading it.
So, what’s up? It only takes a minute to let us know. Write a few lines and send them to your class secretary or use our handy online form. We really do want to know!
Is there a more beautiful time on campus than the fall? Keene never looks better than when she’s wearing her autumn colors. Miss it? We thought so, so we’re giving you the perfect excuse to come back and enjoy KSC at her best. More than just a homecoming, the Alumni Fall Festival & Homecoming will feature opportunities for you to meet with old friends and current students who are members of campus clubs and organizations. You can also look forward to some great entertainment, tailgaiting, and KSC pride competitions out at Owl Stadium. Relive the excitement of cheering on the men’s soccer team under the lights Saturday night. Look for more information in August on our website.
Though June’s Reunion Weekend was over a month ago, people are still talking about the great time they had. Everyone seems to think it was one of the best Reunions ever. No doubt, the new Alumni Center made people feel especially welcome. This magnificent building clearly states that KSC values and welcomes its alumni. You met the same cherished old friends, enjoyed the same great food, and had a great party in your new Center – no wonder everyone was so happy.
So how do we build on that momentum and make next Reunion even better? The Alumni Reunion Weekend Committee will be getting together soon to review the event and make plans for 2011. If you attended Reunion 2010, please help us plan for next year by filling out our brief survey. Tell us how you liked the events, venues, schedule, food, etc. Your opinions matter! We make adjustments each year based on the feedback we hear from participants.
You can even sign on for a seat on the 2011 committee and really make a difference!
Do many of your fond memories of KSC involve the time you spent as a member of a student club or organization? Wouldn’t it be a blast to meet up with the old group again? Well, here’s your chance – the Alumni Fall Festival Weekend is coming up in October, a great excuse to get the old gang back on campus. The Alumni Office will be happy to help you organized a gathering and can help you coordinate with current student groups, arrange a meeting place, plan for refreshments, and get the word out to your special affinity club or group.
Sound good? Email the Alumni Office, or give them a call at 603-358-2369.
