{"id":1409,"date":"2010-09-01T10:45:52","date_gmt":"2010-09-01T18:45:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/keeneweb.org\/newsline\/?p=1409"},"modified":"2011-05-20T20:09:10","modified_gmt":"2011-05-20T20:09:10","slug":"one-can-make-a-difference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.keene.edu\/newsline\/2010\/09\/01\/one-can-make-a-difference\/","title":{"rendered":"One CAN Make a Difference!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This fall, Keene State College will collaborate with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecommunitykitchen.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Community Kitchen<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scully-architects.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Scully Architects<\/a> to host a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canstruction.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">CANstruction<\/a> event. Classes, student organizations, and alumni are invited to participate!<\/p>\n<p>CANstruction is a design\/build competition where groups compete to design and build giant structures made entirely out of canned foods. The results are displayed to the public as magnificent sculpture exhibits. Cans are then donated to local food pantries. Event sponsors will donate all cans needed for the sculpture. Teams DO NOT NEED TO SUPPLY THEIR OWN CANS. The CANstruction website displays <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canstruction.org\/index.php?option=com_expose&amp;Itemid=29\" target=\"_blank\">photos and videos from other events<\/a> around the country<a href=\"http:\/\/www.canstruction.org\/\"><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There are a few ways that you can participate:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Judge:<\/strong><br \/>\nWe are looking for an alumnus to serve as a judge for the event. You would need to be available in Keene during the day on Monday, November 1, 2010.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Form a Team:<\/strong><br \/>\nIf you are interested in getting a team together to compete, contact Sara Telfer at (603) 358-2425 or <a href=\"mailto:stelfer@keene.edu\">stelfer@keene.edu<\/a>. We would love to have an alumni team involved!<br \/>\nInterest Deadline: September 10, 2010<\/p>\n<p>The actual event will be Sunday, October 31, through Sunday, November 6, 2010.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> Team build date: October 31, 2010 @ 10 a.m. \u2013 Student Center Flag Room<\/li>\n<li>Judging: November 1, 2010 \u2013 Student Center Flag Room<\/li>\n<li>Awards will be given in the following categories: Best Meal, Best Use of Labels, Structural Ingenuity, and Jurors\u2019 Favorite.<\/li>\n<li>Maximum size for a structure is 10&#8217;l x 10&#8217;w x 8&#8217;h.<\/li>\n<li>Display: November 1\u20136, 2010 \u2013 Student Center Flag Room<\/li>\n<li>DeCANstruction: November 7, 2010 \u2013 Student Center Flag Room<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Donate Canned Food Items:<\/strong><br \/>\nIn addition to the sculpture competition, the public is invited to donate canned food items at the time of the exhibition and at the close of the competition.
