{"id":6173,"date":"2013-08-05T20:07:46","date_gmt":"2013-08-05T20:07:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.keene.edu\/newsline\/?p=6173"},"modified":"2014-04-14T21:09:27","modified_gmt":"2014-04-14T21:09:27","slug":"three-film-alums-nominated-for-emmys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.keene.edu\/newsline\/2013\/08\/05\/three-film-alums-nominated-for-emmys\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Film Alums Nominated for Emmys"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three Film Studies alums, <strong>Craig Mellish<\/strong>, <strong>Dave Mast \u201996<\/strong>, and <strong>Meagan Frappiea \u201906<\/strong>, have been nominated for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emmysfoundation.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Academy of Television Arts &amp; Sciences Foundation&#8217;s<\/a> Emmy Awards in the Sound Editing category for their work on Florentine Film&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.florentinefilms.com\/ffpages\/F-frameset.html?FTDB.html~mainFrame\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Dust Bowl<\/em><\/a> (2012) and <a href=\"http:\/\/florentinefilms.com\/ffpages\/F-frameset.html?FONP.html~mainFrame\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The National Parks: America\u2019s Best Idea<\/em><\/a> (2009).<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6176\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6176\" style=\"width: 175px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6176\" alt=\"Craig Mellish photo\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.keene.edu\/newsline\/files\/2013\/08\/CraigMellish175.jpg\" width=\"175\" height=\"135\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6176\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Craig Mellish<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mellish, a native of North Walpole, came to Florentine in 1996 as an intern on the film <a href=\"http:\/\/florentinefilms.com\/ffpages\/F-frameset.html?FTJ.html~mainFrame\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Thomas Jefferson<\/em><\/a>, (1997) and has worked on several of their films since. \u201cI had always assumed that I would have to go to New York or L.A. to get a job in film,\u201d he said. \u201cInstead, I was lucky enough to find one just five miles down the road from my hometown.\u201c He spent over three years as a co-producer on <em>The National Parks<\/em>, and served as editor and dialog editor for some of the episodes. He was editor for Episode One of <em>The Dust Bowl<\/em>, and music and dialog editor for both episodes. He has also been nominated for a prestigious <a href=\"http:\/\/ace-filmeditors.org\/ace-eddie-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\">ACE Eddie Award<\/a> for his work on the Dust Bowl.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6175\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6175\" style=\"width: 175px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6175 \" alt=\"Meagan Frappiea photo\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.keene.edu\/newsline\/files\/2013\/08\/MeaganFrappiea175.jpg\" width=\"175\" height=\"139\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6175\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Meagan Frappiea<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Frappiea started at Florentine as an intern while she was still a film production major at KSC. When she graduated, the company hired her as an apprentice editor and an assistant sound editor to work on <em>The National Parks<\/em>. &#8220;It was six episodes long, so by the time we got a few episodes into sound, I knew enough to take on some more responsibilities and help out with some of the dialog,&#8221; she explained. She went on to serve as assistant editor and sound effects editor on <em>The Dust Bowl<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Her time at Keene State opened the door for her at Florentine. &#8220;It was amazing to have a post house with an internship program only 25 minutes away in New Hampshire. A lot of Keene State students come through the internship program (which I used to co-coordinate with another KSC grad). I learned Avid at college, which is the editing software used at Florentine, so that was a leg up, as well,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6174\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6174\" style=\"width: 175px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6174\" alt=\"Dave Mast photo\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.keene.edu\/newsline\/files\/2013\/08\/DaveMast175.jpg\" width=\"175\" height=\"160\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6174\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dave Mast<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mast is the technical director at Florentine, where he is in charge of purchasing, troubleshooting, and decision making in regards to the computer hardware and software the company uses. &#8220;When the opportunity arises, I am a sound effects editor,&#8221; he said. As a film major at KSC, he received an introduction to sound editing in his Production II and III classes. &#8220;Larry Benaquist&#8217;s Film Theory classes stimulated my interest for working in the film industry,&#8221; he recalled.
