Not only do the parents learn to deal with their exceptional children, they also find profound meaning in doing so.\u00a0The author proposes that diversity is what unites us.<\/p>\n<p><em>Far from the Tree<\/em> has won several awards, including the National Book Critics Circle award for nonfiction, the J. Anthony Lukas award, the Anisfield-Wolf Award, and the Books for a Better Life Award. A <em>New York Times<\/em> bestseller, it was chosen as one of the <em>New York Times<\/em> Ten Best Books of 2012, a <em>New York Times<\/em> daily (Dwight Garner) Best Book of 2012, a <em>Publishers Weekly<\/em> Best Book of 2012, a <em>Boston Globe<\/em> Best Book of 2012, a <em>San Francisco Chronicle<\/em> Best Book of 2012, a <em>Salon.com<\/em> \/ Laura Miller Best Book of 2012, a <em>Kirkus<\/em> Best Nonfiction Book of 2012, a <em>Time<\/em> magazine Best Book of 2012, an Amazon.com Best Nonfiction Book of 2012, a <em>New York Times Book Review<\/em> Notable Book of 2012, a <em>BuzzFeed<\/em> Book of the Year, an <em>Economist<\/em> Book of the Year, and a <em>Cleveland Plain-Dealer<\/em> Book of the Year.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Solomon will be on campus to give the keynote address for this year\u2019s KIR program at 7 p.m., March 5, in the Mabel Brown Room.
