Professor Burchsted is a scientist and professional engineer who specializes in field studies of rivers and wetlands. She applies her research to setting targets for restoration of rivers and wetlands that have been damaged by human actions.
As a teacher, Professor Burchsted brings applied projects into the classroom and frequently takes students into the field to directly study environmental problems and recommend solutions. Funding of her research by outside agencies also enables students to regularly work with Professor Burchsted on her field research.
