KSC students cleaning up a local streamKeene State College is nationally recognized for our commitment to sustainability. At Keene State we believe that building a sustainable world is paramount. Environmental Studies is deeply involved in teaching, researching, and practicing sustainable living.

Keene State is the National Winner of the 2019 EPA Food Recovery Challenge Award

This is the award given from the EPA to the institution that has seen the most growth in food waste prevention or diversion. This year, the EPA recognizes Keene State College as the #1 school in the nation for increasing our food waste diversion efforts! The EPA will use our campus’ story as a model of excellence in higher-ed across the United States!

In 2018 our expanded composting program in the Dining Commons diverted 110.66 tons of organic waste from the landfill. In 2019 with the expansion into the Student Center and Lloyds we upped that number again and composted 160.44 tons of organic waste!!!
